Alberta Cylinder Head Warranty

Standard Warranty

This is a limited warranty subject to the conditions herein contained.

Parts are covered under warranty for a period of 1 year. Alberta Cylinder Head (ABCH) warrants engine parts to be free of defects in material and workmanship for the warranty period of 1 year (12 months), effective from the date of retail sale, as indicated on the original invoice, assuming the part was (and can be documented) installed by a Licensed Automotive Repair Facility. Warranty covers first time part replacement only.

The owner is responsible for the performance of regular maintenance services as specifies in the OE operators guide. In the event of a failure during the limited warranty period, maintenance records will be requested. Failure to properly maintain the vehicle may cause and/or contribute to premature failure. Such damage is NOT covered by ABCH’s limited warranty.

This limited warranty is not valid while a corresponding invoice remains unpaid for over 30 days and terminated when the customer sells, transfers or loses possession of the product.

ABCH does not guarantee or warranty the performance of any used parts, which the customer acquires to complete a repair.

Until defect in ABCH’s workmanship has been determined, all diagnostics and/or repairs are the responsibility of the vehicle owner.

ABCH’s sole obligation shall be the repair or replacement, at ABCH’s option, of such parts, which are acknowledged by ABCH to be defective. Labor costs of removal and installation will not be reimbursed by ABCH unless defective part was installed by an authorized distributor/dealer.

The component parts must be maintained and serviced according to the prescribed schedules outlined in the applicable maintenance manual. Receipted bulls or other evidence that required maintenance and service has been performed will be required by ABCH as a condition of this. As such, any limited warranty.

Component part limited warranty claims require a copy of the customer’s original sales receipt and part sales invoice showing the date and proof the failed part was purchased from and authorized ABCH distributor. Warranty covers first time part replacement only.

Prior to conducting any repairs, ABCH’s warranty department must be contacted to verify limited warranty coverage, determine repair strategies, obtain a warranty pre-approval number and get immediate parts return disposition.

No reimbursement shall be made without valid pre-approval and until all defective parts have been returned and analyzed.

On all parts, components or engines that have a failure, ABCH must be notified prior to any repairs being performed. In all cases, parts purchased for repairs locally without ABCH’s consent will be denied.

Any failed parts or repair orders received forty-five (45) days after the date the claim is opened will not be considered for reimbursement. As such, any claim that remains idle for thirty days (30) will be closed and will not be eligible for reimbursement.

If ABCH determined that the cause of the failed part or unit is found to be the responsibility of the customer, ABCH will supply the repairing location with a detailed report of the findings and photos of the failed part. The distributor will be invoiced for the total repair, including replacement parts, ABCH’s labor time and freight. R&R labor expenses will be the customer’s responsibility.

All parts related to and including any major engine replacement or repairs are required to be promptly returned to ABCH. Engines must be complete for ABCH to properly diagnose them.

Fluid samples are required for the following conditions:

  • Engine failures involving bearings, crankshafts and camshaft must be returned with sample results from engine lubricating oil and oil filter.

Failure to submit the required samples may result is claim denial.

Receipts covering the performance of regular maintenance must be retained in the event that questions arise concerning maintenance procedures.

If ABCH determines that the returned part, component or engine is found to NOT be defective, the repair facility/owner will be sent a detailed report. Do it yourself repairs, repairs performed by unlicensed repair facilities or repairs made to units not originally installed in an approved repair facility will not be reimbursed.

Please retain all service records related to the remanufactured engine product, maintenance and service. In the event of a product failure you will be required to provide copies of installation invoices and all maintenance records covering the installed product. Personal maintenance records are not accepted. Oil and temperature light/gauge and speedometer must be in proper working order. To a different repair facility. Proper and effective completion of limited warranty work is the responsibility of the repair facility.

If subletting repairs is deemed necessary, ABCH will reimburse the sublet repairs providing the cost is pre-approved by ABCH and does not exceed $90/hour and is consistent with standard repair times. ABCH also reserves the right to request the customer take his/her engine/vehicle to designated repair facility.

Engines should be installed according to industry standard guidelines. Any engine failure related to faulty installation procedures will not be covered under ABCH’s warranty.

Oil cooler must be replaced at the time of installation; otherwise warranty is void.

All fuel filters must be installed when dry. DO NOT prime the filter with fuel before installing.

Cooling and Lubricating system must be cleaned and inspected before reinstall.

Clean and inspect all belts, hoses and parts transferred from previous engine/vehicle.

See attached break in procedures.

ENGINE BREAK-IN PROCEDURE

In order to ensure a long lasting life your newly rebuilt engine must go through what’s referred to as a “break in procedure”. The “break in” allows crucial engine parts to mate together such as the camshaft and lifters, as well as the piston rings and cylinders. There are a few simple ways to do this, but first let’s start with what not to do. Do not let the engine idle for a prolonged period of time (more than 2 minutes). When the engine is idling there is little oil pressure as well as little oil splash which is crucial to engine lubrication. It is recommended that you allow a cold engine to high idle for 1 minute to warm up and then ease into driving. Also do not run the vehicle for prolonged periods of time at a steady RPM (highway driving). Steady RPM does not allow the engine to vary its load, which is important for piston ring seating. The best way to “break in” your new engine is to vary the vehicle speed and the engine load. A good example of this is driving in the city (lots of stop and go and varying loads). The “break in” period is approximately 1500km’s (the first 500 being the most crucial) during this period it is important to follow a strict oil change schedule. This allows you to flush harmful contaminants from the engine. The first oil and filter change should be done at 500km’s (except when engine is equipped with a flat tappet camshaft, see flat tappet cam break in sheet). The next at 2500km’s, and regular 5000km oil changes after that. Failure to follow this schedule could result in internal engine damage and will void the warranty. ABCH recommends LUCAS Break in (SAE 20W 50) engine oil for engines equipped with a flat tappet camshaft. For engines equipped with roller camshafts, mineral based oil (conventional oil) in the manufacturer’s weight is recommended. Do not run synthetic oil in your engine! If you do want to run synthetic oil, please contact us before doing so. As with any new engine it is important to monitor your gauges closely. With any rise in temperature or drop in oil pressure you should pull over when safe immediately.

Key points:

• No prolonged idling!

• Follow the oil change schedule! 500km, 2500km, 5000km!

• Vary the engine RPM and load!

Note: It is the customer’s responsibility to monitor the engine extremely closely especially during the first 5000km’s. This includes frequently checking oil and coolant levels, listening for odd sounds, noting any odd smells, checking for unusual vibrations, etc. Failure to report any of the above immediately will affect the engines warranty.

Marine Engine Break in Procedure

A marine engine break-in procedure involves varying RPMs for the first several hours, avoiding continuous operation at a single speed, and following a specific oil change schedule. The first hour is often the most critical, requiring you to vary your RPMs between idle and a lower range, with occasional short bursts of higher RPMs and, after 10 hours, the first oil and filter change.

Before you begin:

  • Warm up the engine: Always let the engine warm up to its operating temperature before putting it in gear and operating it under load.
  • Vary RPMs: Avoid running the engine at a single, continuous speed for extended periods. This is the most crucial aspect of the break-in process.
  • Refer to your owner’s manual: The exact procedure can vary by manufacturer, so always consult your specific engine’s owner’s manual for detailed instructions
